About Us

Family Owned & Operated

Meet the Team

Tauranga Helicopters is a family-owned flight training business based at Tauranga Airport. We keep things personal, practical and safety-focused, with a small team that supports students and trial-flight customers from their first enquiry through to flying.

Ross Maule

Chief Flight Instructor

Ross’s connection with flying started before he could walk — strapped into a car seat in the back of a Cessna 172 while flying with his dad. That early exposure grew into a lifelong passion for aviation. Ross founded Tauranga Helicopters Ltd in 2016 with a focus on high-quality helicopter flight training in the Bay of Plenty. With 5,000+ hours of flying experience across multiple helicopter types and a calm, methodical teaching style, Ross guides students from their very first hover through to their private or commercial licences.

Sean Maule

Operations Support / Social Media Manager

Similar to Ross, Sean has been around aviation his whole life, with some of his earliest memories being spent at Ardmore. Currently pursuing a career in aviation engineering with Air New Zealand, Sean also runs his own photography business, Yeah, nice. Industries, on the side. He supports the day-to-day operations of Tauranga Helicopters, including social media, customer enquiries and behind-the-scenes support, while also flying when he gets the chance.

Milo

Office Supervisor

Milo takes his role as Office Supervisor very seriously. His responsibilities include greeting visitors, quality-checking any food that enters the building, and ensuring the briefing room floor is kept clean at all times.

Despite multiple attempts, Milo has not yet obtained his PPL. Ross maintains this is due to him not having thumbs. Milo disputes this.
